Client FAQs

Answers to your questions about hiring fractional executives, interim leaders, independent consultants and contractors through Maestro.

About Maestro

What is Maestro, and how does it work?

Maestro is a curated community of fractional executives, interim leaders, independent consultants and contractors - each personally vetted with a minimum of 10 years' senior leadership experience. Tell us what you need, and Maestro hand-picks a shortlist of vetted experts from our network across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. You meet your options, choose your expert, and Maestro handles contracts, payroll and onboarding from there.

How is Maestro different from a traditional recruiter or staffing agency?

A traditional recruiter sends you CVs and disappears. Maestro is highly selective in who we represent - every expert is personally vetted, with a minimum of 10 years' real-world leadership experience. We're also a long-term partner to our talent, which means the experts we place are genuinely invested in delivering results, not just securing the next placement.

How is Maestro different from a consulting firm?

A consulting firm sends you a team you didn't choose, at a rate structured around their overheads rather than your needs. Maestro connects you directly with an individually curated expert - fractional, interim, consulting or contracting - structured around your business and your timeline, not a standard retainer.

What types of engagements can I find talent for through Maestro?

Maestro places experts for engagements ranging from a few days to up to two years, including fractional roles (typically one to three days per week on an ongoing basis), interim roles (full-time for a defined period), independent consulting (project-based advisory) and contracting (hands-on execution).
See Fractional Executives, Interim Executives, Independent Consultants and Independent Contractors for more.

How does Maestro find and vet its talent?

Every Maestro is personally vetted before joining our community. We require a minimum of 10 years' experience at leading businesses, consultancies or institutions - or significant leadership experience at a scale-up or startup. Vetting goes beyond skills and CVs to assess attitude, working style and track record, ensuring every expert we recommend is one we'd stake our reputation on.

How secure is my project information when working with Maestro?

Maestro safeguards all client and project information through secure data handling practices and compliance with relevant data protection regulations. When working with a Maestro expert, we recommend agreeing on your organisation's policies for handling and storing sensitive information as part of onboarding.

Does Maestro work with businesses of all sizes?

Yes. Maestro works with startups, scale-ups, consultancies and large enterprises across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. See Scale-ups & High Growth Companies and Startups for more on how Maestro supports businesses at different stages.

Getting Started

How do I hire a fractional executive, interim leader or consultant through Maestro?

Visit Hire Talent and tell us what you need - your industry, the function or role, and your timeline. If you're not sure exactly what the role should look like, Maestro will help you shape the brief. From there, Maestro hand-picks a shortlist of 3–5 vetted experts for you to meet.

How quickly can Maestro place an expert?

Most placements happen within days of the initial brief. For urgent requirements, Maestro can present a shortlist of vetted candidates within 48 hours. Once you've selected your expert, Maestro handles all contracts, payroll and onboarding.

What happens once I've selected an expert?

Maestro manages the entire engagement administratively - contracts, payroll, onboarding and compliance - so your team can focus on the work itself. Maestro also stays close throughout the engagement to ensure alignment and outcomes, and facilitates a review process at the end of each engagement.

What if the match isn't right?

If a placement isn't working, we address it quickly. Maestro manages the performance feedback process and will work with you to find a better fit. Our goal is long-term client success, not just a transactional placement.

How long can I engage a fractional executive or consultant for?

Engagements can range from a single day to two years or more, depending on your needs. Fractional arrangements are typically structured around a set number of days per week or month. Interim roles are usually full-time for a defined period. Project-based engagements are scoped around a specific outcome or deliverable. We structure the engagement around your business, not a standard retainer.

Pricing

How is pricing determined?

Pricing is based on the expert's day rate and the structure of your engagement (fractional, interim, consulting or contracting). Maestro works with you to structure an engagement that fits your budget and the scope of the challenge.

Are there any upfront costs to engage Maestro?

There's no cost to submit a brief or meet shortlisted candidates. Pricing is discussed transparently as part of your engagement once you've selected your expert.

Can I convert a fractional or interim engagement into a permanent hire?

Yes. If you work with a Maestro expert and decide you want to bring them on permanently, we can facilitate that transition. Many of our clients choose to trial talent fractionally before making a permanent hire - it's a lower-risk way to find the right long-term fit.

Ongoing Support

What support does Maestro provide during an engagement?

Maestro stays close throughout every engagement to ensure alignment, progress and outcomes - and can move quickly if anything needs adjusting. After each engagement, Maestro facilitates a review process with both the client and the expert to strengthen future collaborations.

Can I hire the same expert again, or convert them to a permanent hire?

Yes. If an engagement goes well, you can re-engage the same expert for future work, or - where appropriate - explore converting them to a permanent hire. Maestro can support you through that transition.

Where does Maestro operate?

Maestro currently operates across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong, with deep expertise across ASEAN, Greater China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
