Talent FAQs

Answers to your questions about joining Maestro as a fractional executive, interim leader, independent consultant or contractor.

About Maestro

What is Maestro, and how does it work?

Maestro is a curated community of fractional executives, interim leaders, independent consultants and contractors, connecting exceptional senior talent with meaningful work across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. We believe the future of work is fractional, focused and flexible - when talent has the freedom to build a career on their own terms, they do their best work, and clients get exactly the expertise they need, exactly when they need it.

What types of clients does Maestro work with?

Maestro works with consultancies, enterprises, scale-ups and startups of all sizes across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. We're selective about who we work with - every client is chosen to meet the standard our Maestros deserve.

Is there a cost to join Maestro?

No - there's no cost for talent to join Maestro.

What makes Maestro different from other talent communities or marketplaces?

Maestro is built around a simple idea: the era of burnout culture, quiet quitting and living to work is over. We help experienced leaders build portfolio careers with real flexibility - matching you with opportunities suited to your skills, ambitions and the life you want to build, not just the next job on a list.

What makes Maestro different from a recruiter?

Recruiters build large, impersonal databases. Maestro is highly selective in who we represent - we take the time to get to know you beyond your CV, so we can match you with work that suits your skills, ambitions and personal goals. We're also a long-term partner: we help you build your personal brand, set you up for future opportunities, and support you through the Maestro Mentors program. We don't just place you and disappear.

Joining Maestro

How do I apply to join Maestro?

Apply here to complete a short application. You'll receive confirmation, and our team will aim to respond within 24 - 48 hours to let you know if you're a fit to move forward.

What does the application process involve?

Start with a short expression of interest form. If it looks like a good fit, we'll schedule an interview to get to know you beyond your CV - your experience, working style, and career goals. If successful, you'll be welcomed as a Maestro.

Do I need professional references?

Yes - Maestro requires two recent professional references as part of the application process.

What experience do I need to join Maestro?

Maestro looks for a minimum of 10 years' experience at leading businesses, consultancies or institutions, or significant leadership experience at a scale-up or startup. Beyond experience, we look for the attitude, working style and ambition that set our Maestros up to thrive in fractional and portfolio careers.

What disciplines and specialisations does Maestro represent?

Maestro represents senior experts across all core business functions, including finance, strategy, operations, technology, marketing and customer, people and culture, commercial and sales growth, communications, creative services and performance coaching. Whether you are a fractional CFO, fractional CMO, fractional COO, fractional CTO, fractional CSO, interim executive or independent consultant, there is a place for you in the Maestro community.

Finding Work

How do I get matched with clients and projects?

Maestro takes a people-first, human-led approach to matching - getting to know you personally, beyond your CV, including your working style, personal goals and ambitions. We use this holistic understanding of you to find the right match for each opportunity, rather than relying on a static shortlist. We have a private job board where you can put your profile forward and we traditionally shortlist 3-5 Maestros to present to the client.

Can I choose which projects to accept?

Yes - it's entirely up to you which projects you apply for and ultimately accept.

Can I work remotely?

Many engagements support remote or hybrid working, though some clients require onsite presence for part or all of an engagement. Any location requirements are outlined clearly in the project brief.

Can I choose my own hours?

Maestro is built around fractional, focused and flexible work. You know how you work best - some clients may require specific hours or onsite time, which will be made clear upfront, but otherwise the structure of your engagement is yours to shape.

Payments

How and when do I get paid?

We keep it really simple - you submit a fortnightly or monthly tax invoice, and you'll be paid within 2-5 days from Maestro receiving payment from the client.

Are there any fees or deductions from my earnings?

No - Maestro does not charge talent any platform fees or deductions.
